On a Water Binge
Recently, I decided it was time to begin the search of finding that all-around healthier me. You may wonder…...Where does one begin such a broad endeavor?? I have concluded that the safest and most efficient beginning is with..WATER!!!!! Around 71% of the planet's surface is covered by water and “Water makes up about two thirds of who we are, and influences 100 percent of the processes in our body,” says CamelBak hydration expert Doug Casa, PhD.
Here are 5 simple but important reasons to drink water:
Without water you will die! I know this sounds dramatic but it is that simple. The body can only last a couple of days, maybe a week without water. We can live much longer without food.Water promotes the circulation of nutrients throughout the body.
Water improves mental state. Lack of water causes dehydration. Dehydration causes confusion, dizziness and grumpiness.
Drinking water allows the body to perform better. Dehydration leads to weakness, fatigue and electrolyte imbalance.
Water cleanses the body of toxins. Our digestive system rids itself of waste in the form of sweat and urine.
Hydrating the body improves skin. Skin is the body's largest organ. Water builds new cells and improves color and texture..causing a healthy glow. In addition, it aids the skin's job of regulating body temperature.
As a result of my new health focus, I now have a new accessory. My water bottle!! I started this journey with a case (or more accurately…..many cases) of water. That didn't last very long. During this transformation to a “healthier me”, I have become more mindful of healthier surroundings as well. That is why I threw all the disposable water bottles into the recycling bin and went shopping for a reusable water bottle. It's a beautiful thing. I take it with me wherever I go. Im able to fill up at every destination. The only problem I have found has a few simple solutions. Since my water bottle stays wet throughout the day, it does require proper care to prevent the potential breeding ground for bacteria.
Dishwasher safe. Most reusable bottles are dishwasher safe. If the bottle has a screw off top or cap, this may be all that is needed.
Bottle brush. If there is an intricate cap or straw, a simple bottle brush may be the final addition to the cleaning process. This allows you to properly clean the areas that you may not be able to reach with a sponge or cloth.
(Baby bottle brushes like the one shown. You can find these at Target, Walmart or any baby store)
Warm soapy water. At the end of each day, be sure to empty and clean your bottle. A mild detergent and warm water is a suitable method for daily cleaning. Leave the bottle open to thoroughly air dry through the night.
Additional sanitizing methods:
Fill with either:
a mild bleach/water solution (1 teaspoon of bleach to 1 gallon of water); let the bleach solution stand for 5-15 minutes. Rinse until all bleach odor is gone. ...
straight white distilled vinegar; let it stand for about 10 minutes. ...
straight hydrogen peroxide; let it stand for about 10 minutes.
